I enjoy the work of British artist Stanley Donwood, particularly his collaborations with Radiohead. Donwood has designed the majority of the band's album and poster art. As well as working on Radiohead art and promotional material, Donwood runs his website called Slowly Downward. In 2002 Donwood and Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke won a Grammy Award for Best Recording Package for the Special Edition of the album Amnesiac. Donwood's writings have also been used in his Radiohead album artwork and appear frequently on Radiohead's official website. Within his work, Donwood explores and questions society, sexuality, war, conformity and politics.
One of my favourite pieces of Radiohead album art is the cover of Hail to the Theif (2003), in which Donwood has created maps of war torn cities such as Kabul and Grozny out of brightly coloured blocks with politically charged words or phrases. I also really like the artwork from Kid A(2000). The third image I have chosen to include in this blog post is called Residential Nemesis (1999) and is a part of the Kid A album art.
